What is Periodontology about?
Periodontology is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the health of your gums and the supporting structures of your teeth. Our expert periodontist specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions such as gum disease, gum recession, and infections that affect these important areas.
Gum disease is a common problem that can lead to issues like inflamed and bleeding gums, gum recession, and even tooth loss if left untreated. Dr. Camargo, our skilled periodontist, is trained to diagnose and treat gum disease through procedures like deep cleaning, gum surgery, and the placement of dental implants when necessary.
In addition to treating gum disease, we can also help with aesthetic concerns related to your gums. We can enhance the appearance of your gum line, correct a “gummy” smile, and address gum recession, all to improve the overall look of your smile.
Why you may need it?
Periodontology treatments may be needed if you are experiencing issues with your gums or the supporting structures of your teeth. These treatments are necessary to address conditions such as gum disease, gum recession, and infections. Seeking periodontology treatments can help prevent tooth loss, manage gum-related infections, and maintain the overall health of your gums and teeth.
Benefits of Periodontology Treatments
Our treatments are designed to enhance and maintain the health of your gums. Healthy gums are crucial for the stability and long-lasting nature of your teeth. By addressing gum disease and other periodontal issues, we can help prevent tooth loss and promote better overall oral health.
Preserving your natural teeth is always a priority. Our periodontist uses advanced techniques to save compromised teeth whenever possible. By addressing gum disease and providing necessary treatments, we can help you avoid tooth loss and the need for more invasive and costly dental procedures.
Preserving your teeth contributes to long-term oral health. Natural teeth offer better chewing function and maintain proper alignment, supporting overall oral health. By addressing periodontal issues and maintaining gum health, we help you retain your natural teeth for as long as possible.
Our periodontist also focuses on improving the appearance of your smile. Issues like receding gums and aesthetic defects can affect your smile’s look. Our treatments aim to address these concerns, restoring a more pleasing and harmonious smile.
Untreated gum disease and other periodontal conditions can lead to severe problems, including bone loss, tooth mobility, and even overall health issues. By choosing our periodontal treatments, you can prevent the progression of these conditions and minimize the risk of future complications.
We provide a wide range of periodontal treatments, addressing gum disease, receding gums, aesthetic issues, and problems around dental implants. Our periodontist will assess your specific needs and create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your oral health goals.
Stages of Periodontitis

Healthy Gums
Gum tissues are pink in color, firm to the touch, and have a smooth and consistent appearance along the gumline. They do not bleed easily, feel tender, or show signs of swelling or inflammation.
Gingivitis
This is the earliest stage of gum disease, characterized by inflammation of the gums. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, and bleeding gums, especially during brushing or flossing. At this stage, the infection is confined to the gum tissue and has not yet affected the supporting structures of the teeth.
Early Periodontitis
As gum disease progresses, it can reach the stage of early periodontitis. In this stage, the infection starts to affect the supporting structures of the teeth, such as the periodontal ligament and the bone surrounding the teeth. Symptoms may include increased gum recession, deeper gum pockets, and potential mild bone loss.
Moderate Periodontitis
In this stage, periodontitis becomes more advanced. The infection further damages the supporting structures of the teeth, resulting in increased gum recession, deeper gum pockets, and noticeable bone loss. Teeth may become loose, and bite alignment can be affected.
Advanced Periodontitis
This is the most advanced stage of periodontitis. The gums are severely damaged, with extensive recession and deep gum pockets. There is significant bone loss, leading to tooth mobility or loss. Bite alignment is severely affected, and additional dental complications may be present.
